15 Aug – Chainmaille Workshop at VHS

WHO: Anyone, member or not, who has done chain in the past or would like to learn the basics. Experienced maillers are of course invited down to chat and show off.

WHAT: Come hang out with us and make some chainmail. Don’t know how? No problem! We’ll show you the basics, which are applicable to both jewellery and armor pieces. A handout with some basic info will be available, and we will bring some rings and wire to share. You should be able to complete a simple keychain or bracelet during the evening.

Supplies are limited and on a first-come first-served basis. We will have some tools, wire, and rings you can use but there is a list below if you would like to bring your own supplies.

WHEN:  Thursday, 15 August 2013.    20:00-22:00

SUGGESTED SUPPLIES:

– Small crafting pliers [Needle-nose, Bent-nose, or Chain-nose pliers are the most popular choices] preferably spring-loaded to open automatically
– Rings, or [wire and a mandrel], and tools are available at The Ring Lord if you choose to bring your own. They are based out of Saskatchewan and shipping is usually very fast. We are not affiliated with them in any way but are both happy, and frequent, customers.
– Patience

SUGGESTED READING: You may want to check out CGMaille.com to have a look at various weaves and patterns to have an idea of what you would like to try. Their tutorials are top notch and we can help you make sense of them when you get there. We will have samples on hand of as many different weaves as we can knock out in time for you to look at as well.

COST: There will be a small out-of-pocket fee for supplies estimated at $10-$15 laid out by the hosts so the [voluntary as always] Donatio bin will be in effect to help offset if people are so inclined. Anything above the modest expenses will go to VHS.

HOSTESS: Liz [binarybookworm@gmail.com]

SPECIAL GUEST: Penny Cheng, owner and artist at Saniki Creations

BOTTOM-LINE: MistStlkr [miststlkr@gmail.com]
