The Vancouver Hack Space (VHS) has set a goal of February 12th 2010 to destroy the moon. VHS member mcantelon has said “We have tolerated this inferior celestial body for too long.” The first stage of the plan is to organize a small moon landing party. Once there members will identify potential weaknesses in the structure of the moon to aid in an efficient demolition.

Electric Sheep is a distributed computing project for animating and evolving fractal flames, which are in turn distributed to the networked computers, which display them as a screensaver. The process is transparent to the casual user, who can simply install the software as a screensaver. Alternatively, the user may become more involved with the project, manually creating sheep (video files of animated fractal flames) for upload to the server. This entertaining service is provided for free…

Best practices

Step 1: Prep

	* Make sure you have a lot of space and nearby access to warm water and a garbage can.
	* Hair should ideally be covered by a swim cap. Hair that still shows should ideally be covered with some sort of release agent such as Vaseline, but short hair seems to pull away without much of a problem.

Also, we want to give you, our fellow hackers, a little incentive to finish that masterpiece you have been working on and promote the VHS ideals of do-ocracy.

It was originally written by LukeC, as part of the VHS API (Perl codebase). The VHS API has since been rewritten by Interlock as a Node.js project. The API is hosted at api.vanhack.ca and acts as a public key-value store, although it is no longer an integral part of isvhsopen.

Circuit

The current LED Wall (as of Fall, 2014) is 768 WS2811 LEDs in a 32×24 grid. The LEDs are in twelve 8×8 panels where the first LED is in the top left and goes down, then right one, and back up, repeating. This snake pattern continues across four panels, then restarts on the next set of four. This is because the original panels were separate pieces and built from recycled leftovers.

Direction

Because of our creative user base we could design our telco around a knowledge sharing model.. All users have access to the core configuration code and overall system workflow. Beyond this the user is invited to streamline the system or find new cost effective ways of doing things. This could be anything from slick management interfaces or area code based cost effective sip routing. Lower overall system cost means a lower monthly bill.

This is a great project, and I believe this is a secure method of access 2 phase security need both card and key. Also, when the key is entered wrong 4 times the card resets itself and is void. This is mainly used for networks that need highly secure access and for financial transactions.. though I think with a little bit of work we can get something working for our door.

VHS has an InfluxDB/Grafana instance to record and graph datapoints in the cloud.

InfluxDB

InfluxDB is a time-series database. What that means, is that it stores data with respect to time.

Consider a MySQL database. Except instead of sending a new value and overwriting the previous data, InfluxDB keeps track of both, along with the time they were sent (unless you specify a different time).
