VHS Training Program: Wood CNC (Dustie)

Introduction

This training program provides an overview of Computer Aided Machining (CAM) and CNC operation, with the goal of giving participants the skills to translate digital models into machine instructions for physical fabrication.

We primarily use Fusion 360 for both CAD and CAM because of its accessibility for hobbyists and the many online resources available. While other CAD software can be used, the CAM module will still be completed in Fusion 360. Note that our focus will be on the CAM process and machine operation, so prior familiarity with CAD is highly recommended. If you require CAD training, consult with the instructor; they may be able to offer this as a separate training or guide you to resources for independent learning.

The program is divided into two main parts: an initial part with self-guided learning followed by an in-person training session. During the self-guided part, participants will develop a project design and set up CAM, with instructor support available as needed. Once the design and CAM setup are approved by the instructor, the in-person training will cover machine operation and safety.
