About

DOWN WITH BETAMAX!

2009-07-28_22.15.50.jpg

VHS provides a physical space where hackers, computer geeks, engineers, artists, crafters, and other creative types can gather to share ideas, equipment, opinions, and beer. We aim to create a sort of 24/7 brain gym, where members can show up and work on personal projects, consult with friends, and learn new tricks. More than just a studio space, we focus on sharing all sorts of knowledge within a friendly and collaborative atmosphere.

Like many other hackspaces we operate on a model of do-ocracy. Check out the VHS Principles of Unity and vhs_golden_guidelines.

At this point most of our members are hardware and software engineers, wood and metal workers, knitters, sewers, and anyone else with an interest in microcontrollers, beard hats, robotics, electronic music and art, but we welcome anyone with skills to share and/or an interest in learning. If this is you, why aren't you here?

Open Nights

Open nights are every Tuesday at 7pm. They are held at 1715 Cook St. Members/Non-Members/Super-Heroes/All are welcome to our Tuesday meetings. Check the calendar for information on upcoming workshops.

Recurring Events

These events may either be open, or may require a fee to cover time/materials.

  • Craft Orama Rama - Every Second Monday (Stalled at the moment) 7:00 PM - Craft-centric night. All are welcome.
  • Tuesday 7:00 PM - Open Night - All are welcome
  • Thursday - Open Night / Software Hacking Night - Bring your own computer :)
  • Super Happy Hacker House - Regular irregular late night social hacking - bring your own projects or just yourself and come socialize at our periodic late night hackathon!

Physical

We are located at 1715 Cook St. Access to the space is from Cook St, and you will have to buzz #104 at the door. Someone will let you in, if we're open.

Electronic

VHS Talk (forum/mailing list) - the easiest way to keep up to date on upcoming events. This can be made to function like either a web forum or a mailing list, your choice.

IRC - many of us also communicate/idle in #VHS on irc.OFTC.net.

Slack - Slack is somewhat similar to IRC, and seems to be taking over much of the chat that used to be common on our IRC channel. Unfortunately you need to be invited by one of the current admins to get access to it - that's slack.com's requirement, not ours. Information on how to do that can be found on the VHS Talk forum.

778-330-1234 - call us.
